^ as a previous sheltie owner I honestly think it depends on how your sheltie is. Especally if he/she is shy then it would take longer to introduce them, It would also be a good idea to work on the jealousy aspect of an introduction. The top dog bit can be a pile of .. to put it nicely Twoddle.
If you are the alpha then BOTH dogs should behave if you dont accomidate for bad behaviour

and believe it or not .. ear biting. "I bite your ear im bigger than you." You might look stupid.. but it works.
