I recall an old post in which Ms. Kanavle (who owns Loki Wolfen) said that one of her dog's littermates died of bloat/GDV-torsion.

It is probably quite rare, but it is good to be cautious anyway. My Frei managed to overfeed herself on Orijen granules (she managed to get to almost full pack of them, I don't know how many she ate before she was stopped as I was not at home at the time) - after that she drank three bowls of water and acted lazy like hell. But nothing happened, fortunately.

Yeah my boy Flint's (Loki) brother Balto Wolfen died from Gastric Torsion a few years back. I don't know how common this is in CsV as compared to GSD but I still take extra precaution (as I would in any large breed) with mine, feeding small meals, not letting him do his "zoomies" or drink too much water after eating. I'm glad it doesn't seem to be too common in the breed. I was always more worried about my GSD getting bloat til I watched her eat..... one... kibble... at.. a.... time... then I wasn't so worried lol. |
