Get Firefox and install the ad-block plus plugin. No more ads.

Many virus programs will give false positives to be on the safe side, even something as simple as a cookie (from this site etc.) could trigger it. Or it could be scripts in some posts / signatures.

I've haven't had Avast alert me when I'm on this site yet, though. Avast has been the best free anti-virus that I've used so far. I'd also recommend Ad-Aware and SpyBot - great anti-malware programs.

As for the OP - sounds like a pseudovirus / scareware attempt. When the program is installed it will alert you that you have a virus and "click here" to clean it. When you click it takes you to a site where you need to purchase their program to clean it.

Is it necessary to install the plug in ? When I try to open any page located on wolfdog.org, Avast screams there is a possible virus/worm in http://www.wolfdog.org/eng/litters/themes/Wolfdog/images/pix-t.gif\{gzip} . So, what do you recommend ?

I get a page not found error when I go to that URL with and without the {gzip} at the end.

The plugin I mentioned just blocks ads on many sites.
