running my czeck dog

I have a 6 month old bitch and we walk all the time, i have started her of real short distances and she loves it. I have just started training her to run next to my bike and was wondering what sort of distance would be good for her as i dont wand to over do it with her. any advise all welcome, thank you

Will be better if you only run with her after 18 months, preferencially after you do the HD and ED exams.
At this age her body isn't completly formed and strong exercices can cause some problems for her health, if she is a displasic dog (that you will only know after the exams) exercices like that can turn the problem worst.

Is it possible for a dog to overstrain themselves while playing? As I have understood, it is repetitive movements over periods of time that are the most hazardous (such as running next to a bike). But I've never owned a dog that can leap, bound and fly quite as our CSVs do while at play either...

thanks, iv only run her a small distance, more of a trot realy as i dint want to over do it, yep she definatly dose seem to fly, my little girl seems to think shes crossed with a kangaroo

what sort of distance for walking would you recomend, and would a jog now and then be ok, thank you

It is very easy to push the pup to hard, a specialy if thay love running.

But recomended are that you only run easy whit puppys between 10-14 month, maximum 3km on a soft track, and maximum twice a week.

After 14 month and good HD/ED result you can run longer, but dont run more than 6 km on asfalt or let her pull the bike before 18 month.

When under 10 month I think walking is better, but you can let her run of leash on a feald or in the woods, that way you will not push her at all and she can decide her self when its enough.

Walking you can do fore longer distance whit a pup over 6 month, but I don´t know the maximum distance.

thanks for the information about runnin my cwd.

you still cant have one here at the mo, but if you can get permition from the lcal council you can, silly place the uk
