Kunming dog ( Kunming Wolfdog )

The Kunming Dog is a wolf-dog hybrid which was bred in the 1950s as a military dog in Kunming, Yunnan. The breed was developed from a pool of wolfdogs, civil dogs and shepherd dogs. The bred was officially recognized in China in 1988 and is now widely used by the Chinese police and military. The Kunming Dog has also been known as a good watchdog and guard dog. The breed appears similar to the German Shepherd, but it is taller and has a shorter coat. The Kunming Dog stands 25 to 27 inches and weighs 66 to 84 pounds. The coat of the breed is predominantly a shade of brown, ranging from rust to straw, and its muzzle and back are marked with black. Its tail is carried high and curls over its back.

Hmmm, more than one military did try to make a new better breed by mixing GSD to wolf / wolfdogs...

Very interesting news, I´ve never heard of that breed /race ! But of course - the east is full of miracles, right? and who knows really what´s happening in China ?

(I always thought they prefer dogs mostly for creating "chinese sushi" or real "Hot dogs")

It seems as if the Cold War had it's affect on (wolf)dog breeding too...
Everybody had to try and make a military wolfdog of their own
The darn German just made it first long before the others, by creating the GSD.
