Worried about pup development & shipping
Hi all,
I have a girlfriend who is bringing in a vlcak pup this coming week. He was supposed to come in last week, but due to the volcanic cloud suspending flights, he is not coming until this week. The problem is this: my girlfriend (who is a professional dog trainer) feels strongly that the earlier you get a pup the better - she likes getting them at 7 weeks. By law, the pup could not be shipped until 8 weeks old, and she was OK with that. However, now the pup will be going on 9 weeks old and she is convinced he will be "ruined"... It's the middle of the "fear period" and she thinks the trip will be traumatic enough to cause lifetime neurosis. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of scenario? Is 9 weeks a serious developmental time for a vlcak? Is the breed, in general, strong enough to overcome flight trauma? No dog is perfect, I just don't want the pup to be ruined, either! Look forward to hearing from you! |

At least 8 week old, is the law over here... but many many puppy’s is not export by that time. I do not think there will be any problem because of age at all from 8 to 9 weeks...
I’m more worried about that she is so worried And Nooooo, of course not, the puppy will not be ruined Very best regards / Mikael

Nothing at all around 8,9 or 10 weeks... Best regards / Mikael

I think it depends on the breeder and how she/he treats the dogs and pups. The early pick- up is crucial if the pups stay with their mother in the kennel outside the breeder's home and see humans a couple of times per day. If the mother and pups live at home, spend time with people, see visitors and other animals, etc. and are generally treated as members of family I don't suppose the flight would seriously affect their further development.

Exactly. The problem is not on puppy side, but on the human. Puppy may be intensively socialisated. If breeder have 6 puppies is practically not possible to socialisated each individually. So that now is most important, how seriously and quality breeder you choice.

I got my puppy in late February after my puppy was stuck half way in NYC in a blizzard on her way to Denver, CO. I thought she would be traumatized and messed up after all that time in a little kennel, but she was just fine and there is no indication months later that her trip here affected her. I got her at 8 weeks- and now she is 16 weeks. She is the least shy Vlcak you'll probably ever meet- not afraid of a thing/confident and very happy-go-lucky.

Not enough research on her part in my opinion... And "ruined"?? That's a bit harsh... I don't think any age is the wrong time to get a dog. I hope this poor pup gets a loving home that doesn't care what age he is... |

Personally, I am not worried about the pup and shipping. My girlfriend who is getting him is worried... Both of us have Belgian Malinois, and we both have seen pups that have been traumatized as a youngster and develop a neurosis. So I do understand her concern.
Vlcaks are not Malinois of course, but as neither of us have any experience with the development of the vlcak, I figured I would ask vlcak people here on the forum what their experiences were. For instance, when I worked as a Vet Tech at a dog training facility, we would ship puppies from Europe for clients. The German Shepherd pups were just fine, but often the Malinois pups were shaking from stress. I don't know what to expect from a vlcak. She is an excellent home and a super dog trainer, so it's not like the pup will be going into any sort of negative situation - she just feels strongly about puppy development "windows"... |

By some breeders is very easy for get puppy. You pay and breeder ask nothing and send puppy. Not all breeders are responsible. And here you have best example of bad breeder from Europe.

Maybe you didn't do a good job of researching the breed yourself, and maybe I'm the only one but i am going to be a little bit irritated about your not useful postings that you make.
Let people decide what kined of a dog they want, and from what lines and breeders. And maybe you can even visit some breeders yourself before you make the non funded comments about some breeders. And if you have the time/money/place maybe you can buy a CWD yourself, if a breeders wants to sell you a dog greetings Judith |

This is sad but true And you can find more info about it by just looking at the "Adult CzWs looking for new home" there are always Crying Wolf and Passo del Lupo dogs there Crying Wolf is famous for the wolfish look on her dogs, not for good working dogs, but of course some of the puppies can be trained to be good working dogs... I can however not se how anyone would buy a Crying Wolfdog to train as a working dog or have the ambitions to be a IPO Champion But but... the price is about 50% off in Hungary of course Regards / Mikael

I have same opinion. People can choose worst dog for work and is their problem and decision. I say about advertising for bad lines lines. I see some Crying wolf dogs here and none is working type and most is very much shy not good for nothing work. All are same or worst than dogs in my country. If Crying wolf is working than italian dogs alll are ultra working. Dogs of Passo del Lupo included.

In italy no more people are saying Crying wolf is good kennel because people import dogs from hungary and hungary line and dogs are not wolfs. Most are smal and very much week. For me most very much like small females. But worst is character and walk. I hear same opinion from other breeders too that is Crying wolf has very much problems in body and very bad move. And i see same in movies and real. Very big problem with legs. It is not good for work is dog can not run and jump. If i wrong show me Crying dog with normal nice in look and normal in run. |

For me is not fair to compare both kennels. Fabio is much better here. From Passo del Lupo new home look dogs of other people. For Crying wolf i look same situation very much long time and breeder of Crying wolf sell her dogs. If dog is old and not nice and not very good for breeding and show is for sale. For me is cruelty to keep puppy long time and if is not nice to sell it. Is not breeding but dealing and production.

Oh there got together two buddies which everyone can call the specialist! Both never have been in wolfdogs camps, both only make their opinion from pictures and what they hear from other people. Did they do some shows???
To be honest, you comments are not helpful. I know Edits home kennel, I do know PdL home kennel and I know lots of their dogs. And Lupis, my Myla Crying Wolf was ClubChampion in Czech Republik 2007 and was beaten the actual world champion and do you know why she was so good? Because she flies over the ground and has perfect movement. Even Margo came after the show to me and gave Myla congratulations. Next time it is better Lupis Mikael you only describe your opinion and do not so as if it is(!) like you write. You have no experience! Christian |

And how do you explain that there is ALWAYS Crying Wolf and Passo del Lupo dogs looking for new homes ??? "Home kennel" Crying Wolf has at least 34 CsV and Passo del Lupo 47 CsV that is not a "Home kennel" in my eyes. Yes, you are right Christian, I´m no expert, but I can tell a working dog kennel from a show dog kennel Best regards / Mikael
