Hello Ela,

As far as I know you can travel with a puppy, but when the puppy is over 12-13 weeks, he needs his Rabies vaccination when you go over the border and this vaccination can be given not earlier than 9 weeks. So you can travel with a puppy allready when he has his 2 puppyvaccinations and you need a International Pasport for your dog. It is necessary for every dog since that date. ( In Holland we have allready)
Maybe there are some different rules by the differnet countries but it cannot be very much difference.

Greetings
Letty

01.10.2004 and we just CAN"T go with a puppy under 3 months old!
But in Poland it was always like this. Only puppies with at least 1 month old rabies vaccination were allowed to cross the border. The only exception was when the puppy was travelling with its mother. I think the best way is like in the past: just to ignore this silly regulation. We imported already 3 dogs from Czech republic and never had problems with it.

According to new EU laws the dog younger than 3 months may pass the border when he has the EU pass and didn't have contact with other adult animals.

It is not true - take a look on this article about the new european rules:

Hi Ela,

In the new EU rules pups younger then 3 months don’t need rabies vaccination when you can prove he was till the traveling on the place of birth and had no contact with animals with possible rabies (a certify of a vet is enough)

You only need a EU passport for traveling with your dog.

Only a few EU country’s have special rules of their own: Norway, Sweden, England ans Ireland.

Also there are some NOT EU country’s that have the same EU traveling rules: Switserland, Iceland, Andorra, Liechtenstein, Monaco, San Marino en Vaticaancity.

I imported my pup from Czech republic when she was 6 weeks old (and she had a fake rabies declaration)

Afterwoods I went on hollidays with her when she was only 9 weeks old and we did pass several borders ( we went even by ferry to Greece) without any problems!

Greetings,
Mijke

Thank you all for your opinions
It's impossible to ignore the law, cause the trip I mean should be by an airplane!
The girl I talked , was said that a puppy must have more than 3 months.
Now I think that they didin't know exectly the problem.

Margo do you have the article in English?

Thank you very much, by
Ela

Hello Ela,

Even by a trip by plane, you can travel with a puppy without Rabies vaccination. But you need a good health certificate from a vet. When the puppy is older then 12 - 13 weeks, you need a Rabies vaccination.

Letty

P.S.

I have here a http// http://www.rvv.agro.nl/afdeling/inst...../Gezuv003.ht

Mayby you can find a variation in English lenguage. It is for the Dutch vets
but it can help.

Hi Ela,

As you probable know Margo has a short holidays now, but she will be back next week.

If you want to read more in the meantime about EU regulations for traveling with pets, you can find more on this (english) EU page:

http://europa.eu.int/rapid/pressRele...guiLanguage=en

Or this (in adobe reader):
http://europa.eu.int/comm/food/anima...i04_724_en.pdf

By the way, sometimes there are circumstances by wich the rules changes for some time .
For example in France the FCI – WK champ. for working dogs in Ambès (10 – 12 sept) is canceled by the governement because of an incident with a rabies dog. And for a few months all acticity's with dogs are forbidden.

Greetings,
Mijke

You can find more info in the EU pages

Thank you so much!
Now it's clear for me and I give all this links to the girl who wants to buy a puppy.

I know Margo is going to Czech and she will see my Amber's "wife" Cita and get some infos about the puppies
