Default Healthy Dog Showing / BSI list

Quote:
Inbreeding, health problems, registered cross bred dogs,SO WHAT ARE YOU ALL DOING ABOUT IT??? Our question for Europe from U.K.??????
/ Paul
Sorry Paul for the delay, but here is my answer

This is what Denmark have done for years and Sweden are doing right now To try to get a better health on all breeds and a better reputation for dog shows...

In Sweden we have now the BSI list wish means Breed Specific Instructions. Just as they have had the Danish "Sundhetslistan" = Health List, for some years now in Denmark.

In Denmark they have judges and there list are in use, Sweden have had some judges under education under the year 2008, but as I understand it is not in use yet, however they had a test run on Hund 08 ( Dog 08 ) in Stockholm and hopefully it will soon be reality.

The Swedish list is for about 300 breeds, where the demands for 7 breeds is very high, 12 breeds whit high demands and 28 breeds that are under extra observation, the GSD is one of those breeds that are under extra observation.

The new or higher general demands on all the 300 breeds are…

*Brathing
*Eye
*Skin
*Fur
*Movement
*Mentality

All of the above are to be natural and healthy, and not effect the dog in a negative way !!!

The BSI list have been translated to English and sent to the English kennel club and FCI and have been very positively received by both. lots of other kennel clubs also now show a big interest of the list for a more healthy dog showing and breeding.

Here are the BSI list in English : http://www.skk.se/funk/funk_srd_eng.htm

Good Work Dkk and Skk I do really hope it will have an impact to...

Very best regards / Mikael

For me this is also a good “start” !!
But is only a start for me

Because I know a lot of breeds have more health problems then only the visible things!!!
And of course judges can only judges on the things they can see.

When you compare for a specific breed the things that are mentioned in this list, with the already available genetic test for this breed, you will find out a lot more health problems…

And till today owners and breeders can show their beautiful dogs with (serious invisible) health problems, till they become champion.
And every one knows, that there are breeders who will breed with champions and make advertising for them, even when they have invisible health problems!

For example even in CsW breed, with a health problem like HD, there are dogs who do not have official HD x-rays. They can legal become champion and there are still breeders who breed with such dogs…...

So I hope in future it will be obligated to have also good DNA test results of a dog (of the available test of the health problems in that breed) before an owner/breeder can sign in for a show!

But I think that this will take a lot of years!

Yes I agree, it is just a start, and we have not even started at all yet

Or at least before breeding

Yes as always but hopefully it will start to get better soon if FCI desides this for all FCI country´s, or at least get the buyer more aware of that only show results means Not Breedable now (and for always) !?!

Best regards / Mikael
